Authors can submit complete unpublished or independently published books free. Readers can explore books by genre, language, algorithm-generated literary score or a separate reader rating. Ebook prices begin at £2 and are capped at £5.

Literary ratings use an assessment algorithm of the complete manuscript under a published rubric. Reader ratings come from private questionnaires checked for credible knowledge of the book. Neither score is a guarantee of quality or enjoyment. Authors cannot buy a better ranking.

Our assessment algorithm is designed to reward the depth, individuality and sustained craft of human writing. With today’s AI capabilities, our aim is for AI-generated books generally to score lower than strong human-written books. The House of Lit will continue to develop its assessment algorithm with that aim. This is a commitment to literary quality, not a claim that the algorithm can reliably identify how a book was written or guarantee any individual result.

We are welcoming founding authors and building the shelf. We do not claim an established readership or guarantee downloads. We are an ebook marketplace; submission does not secure an agent, editing service or traditional publishing contract.
